Shortcuts: FAQ Tournaments Accommodations Getting to LANcouver

LANcouver is a 3-day gaming event first founded in 2004 on Vancouver’s North Shore. The event is a BYOC LAN party and tournament which means you’ll need to bring your own computer along with its monitor, keyboard, mouse and other accessories.

What is a LAN party? For decades, gamers all over the world have gathered together at events to celebrate their love for PC hardware, video games and competitive gaming. LAN parties range from small casual gatherings of friends to giant week-long events with thousands of participants. The goal of LANcouver is to be appealing to gamers of all ages and all interests. No game is un-playable!

LANcouver is the region’s longest-running LAN party. Since 2011 it has been an annual affair and 2015 marks the 10th LANcouver event. Join us this fall for an unforgettable weekend filled with gaming – we hope everyone has fun when they come to LANcouver and meet new friends, drink lots of BAWLS and play lots of games!

Richmond Olympic Oval was the amazing venue for LANcouver 2012. This gigantic facility has over 200,000 square feet of courts, rinks and activity space. For 2013, an opportunity presented itself for the event to be held right inside the NCIX Warehouse in Richmond, BC. In 2015 the event will be hosted at SFU’s Burnaby campus.

Buying a 3-day BYOC pass gets you a seat in the BYOC area as well as entry in to any of the tournaments, events, panels, competitions, and anything else going on at LANcouver. Single-day passes are not available since all of the tournaments and events take place over the entire weekend, and you wouldn’t want to come for just one day of fun!

Spectators are welcome at LANcouver! Passes are available at the door for $5 per day or $10 for the entire weekend. SFU Students with valid/current student ID get in for FREE.

What kind of games are played at LANcouver? In addition to the two showcase tournaments listed in our Tournaments menu above, we will also be hosting mini-tournaments throughout each night, and we encourage gamers of any skill level to participate, meet new friends, and form teams to compete for great prizes from our sponsors.

Do you have a game you want to play? Start a game server (if there isn’t already an official one active) and get as many people as you can to participate – we may even find some prizes for the winners!

What else happens at LANcouver? We run panels and seminars, special challenge events (like the Keyboard Toss pictured above), sponsor demonstrations, random prize draws, live music and entertainment, and so much more. Impromptu events are also what makes LANcouver great – you never know when one of our sponsors will start a sleeping bag sack race at 3am!

You can only experience LANcouver by being here, and gamers who know a good time are LANcouver die-hards. Join us this summer for an event you’ll never forget!
