FAQ – Read First!
Q: How long will the tournament take?
A: See below for details – the entire tournament takes three days. There are lots of other fun things going on during the course of the weekend, and your pass gets you in to everything!
Q: Will there be enough seats for everyone?
A: Yes! LANcouver has a capacity of over 200 BYOC participants.
Q: What pass do I need to enter the tournament? Can I spectate?
A: You must purchase a 3-day BYOC pass to enter (the tournament takes place over the entire weekend). Spectator passes will be available online or at the door for $10 (covers the entire weekend)
Q: Will there be computers to play on, or can I share a computer with my friend?
A: No tournament computers will be provided, and you must bring your own computer to play in the tournament. If you choose to share with a friend, you must be able to use that computer when your matches come up or face disqualification.
Q: Do I need to be a certain age to enter?
A: No! LANcouver tournaments are open to players of all skill levels and ages, however since Counter-Strike is rated M you will need parental consent to enter the event and compete in this game.
Q: I want to participate in one of the other main tournaments at LANcouver as well as this one. Can I?
A: Although your pass gets you entry in to any of the tournaments we are recommending that you only sign up for one of these tournaments, since they will be running mostly simultaneously throughout the weekend. CS:GO will be taking place after-hours and will be playable by all CS:S players as well as players from other games.
Q: What kind of internet connection will be at LANcouver? Will I get disconnected?
A: We will have four Shaw EXO 250Mbps internet connections and an alternately provided backup connection. With a total of 1 gigabit of bandwidth, you can play with confidence!
Q: Where will the Counter-Strike servers be located?
A: EOReality game server hosting will be on-site with dedicated CS:S servers. They provide servers for top-tier online matches, and will be administering the entire tournament from within the building – no lag!
Q: Will there be a cash buy-in or cash prize for the Counter-Strike tournament?
A: No cash buy-in will be required (your 3-day pass gets you entry to the event). As of right now, no cash prize is planned for Counter-Strike. Please come to the event and support us so that in the future we can get support from sponsors to have cash prizes!
Q: How will ties, disputes, cheating and disconnects be handled?
A: Dedicated CS:S tournament staff will take care of everything related to this tournament. Ties will be decided with overtime rounds using normal methods. Cheating and false accusations of cheating will be handled very seriously and could result in ejection from the event.
Registration & General Info
On-Site team registration will begin immediately when the doors open. Online pre-registration does not guarantee your team a seed in the tournament, so be sure to check in when your entire team has arrived (see Team Check-In).
Teams
Teams will consist of five players. A backup or coach is permitted as an alternate and may be substituted if necessary for the entirety of one match. Substituting during a match is not permitted. Backup players must pay full LANcouver admission to be eligible for substitution.
Ruling Body
While this tournament is not sanctioned by any governing or ruling body, players are expected to act in a professional manner at all times. Heckling, trolling, badgering, or threatening other players will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the tournament, and in some cases the LANcouver venue. Tournament Admin and LANcouver Staff instructions are to be followed at all times. Please refer to the LANcouver code of conduct for general LAN party rules and guidelines.
Team Check-In
All teams must check in when all members are at the venue with a working connection to the LAN. Teams are not allowed to check in for members who are not at the venue, and only complete teams with five players will be seeded into the group play brackets.
Match Format
Rounds will be played using a pre-determined configuration file, with maximum rounds set to 15. The first team to reach 16 round wins is considered the winner of the match. In the event that both teams win 15 rounds, a standard overtime configuration will be executed and each team will play 3 rounds on each side, until one team receives 4 wins. All configuration files can be downloaded by clicking here (.zip file).
Maps
Standard Defend/Defuse maps will be used during this event. Only maps from the following list will be considered eligible for selection by teams. All teams will play the same maps during Group Play, as outlined in the tournament schedule.
Eligible Maps: de_cache, de_contra, de_dust2, de_inferno, de_nuke, de_russka, de_season, de_train, de_tuscan
Group Play
All teams will all face off in a round robin format and be awarded three points per win. In the event of a draw, both teams will be awarded one point. There will be no overtime rounds during group play.
The round robin will consist of 15 match rounds in which all teams will play each other once. Group play will begin promptly at 7:00pm on June 29th. See the scheduling section below for complete group play scheduling.
Staying on schedule is crucial so all teams are required to be in their assigned servers no later than five minutes after their scheduled start. We have allotted 45 minutes per match during group play which is more than sufficient to complete a MR15 match. Delaying a match may result in an automatic forfeit. A five (5:00) minute grace period is granted before declaring a no-show forfeit.
