Q: What do I need to bring to LANcouver to participate in the BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) area?
A: The basic things you need are a computer (desktop or laptop), monitor, keyboard, mouse, mousepad, headset or headphones, computer power cables, power bar w/surge protection, and a 15‘ or longer network cable. It is recommended that you bring extra cables just in case.

What not to bring: Dual monitors, a monitor larger than 30″, network switches or routers, high-power appliances or accessories, speakers of any kind, drink coolers (unless as part of a group), large objects like bins and boxes, large air mattresses and anything that might impede or affect people around you.

Q: How much space does each person get?
A: Each BYOC spot is approximately 4 feet of table space (1/2 of an 8-foot table), and includes one network port and one 10-amp plug for your power bar. We recommend putting your tower on the floor to allow enough space between you and your neighbor. Make sure you keep your area tidy and any bags out of the aisles.

Q: Can I bring my own chair?
A: Yes, absolutely! We encourage participants to bring their own chair for gaming comfort throughout the weekend. Rolling chairs may not be used outside of your seat area. Please refrain from wheeling around the venue, or your chair may be confiscated.

Q: How old do I need to be to attend?
A: We encourage gamers of all ages to attend LANcouver, but if you are under 18 you must attend with a parent or other over-18 participant. Some games played at LANcouver are rated Mature, and while we encourage all participants to be sportsmanlike, foul language may occur within the venue.

Q: Is there a PC Check or anywhere to store my gear if I leave for a while? What about security?
A: Each computer will be identified with numbered sticker that matches your BYOC pass. LANcouver staff will be checking equipment that leaves the venue to ensure that only you can leave with your own monitor/tower/laptop. We recommend attending with a friend who can watch your computer if you are away from it. If you leave the venue we highly recommend taking your peripherals and any other small personal items with you.

A hardware curfew will be in place during the night, during which time you cannot leave with any computer hardware or peripherals

LANcouver is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged possessions during the event. Security of your gear rests with you, and while we will do everything we can to ensure no theft occurs, we highly recommend you follow the above recommendations when attending the event.

Q: What kind of food will be available at LANcouver? Can I bring my own food and drinks?
A: LANcouver staff will not be running a concession this year. Many food options are available within a 5 minute walk including the SFU Dining Hall (buffet), Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and many more. You can bring outside food and drinks if they do not make a huge mess (and of course, NO alcohol is allowed inside the venue).

Help keep LANcouver green & awesome by recycling your bottles & cans in the recycling bins provided!

Q: What can I do if I forget something like a power bar, power cord, or network cable?
A: These items and more will be for sale at the event. LANcouver staff or sponsors are not able to lend out any equipment for any reason.

Q: My friends and I want to sit together, can we reserve seats?
A: VIP reserved seats are available on a first come first served basis. The extra VIP fee goes towards the custom seating area. Normal BYOC seats are on a first-come-first-served basis. Group registration is available during the ticket purchasing process – one group member should create the group on our ticket purchase page. Other group members can then join that group when they register. This is for seating purposes only and does not count as registration of a team for a tournament.

Q: Can I sleep at LANcouver, or bring an air mattress/sleeping bag/foamie?
A: There is no dedicated sleeping area and due to venue regulations sleeping is not permitted. We recommend bringing a pillow for comfort if you decide to take a quick nap at your table. Hotels and accommodations are available within 10 minutes of the venue.

Q: What about parking and loading all my gear in to the venue?
A: Parking is adjacent to the venue in the SFU visitor parking area. A flat rate of $6.50 per day during the weekend applies. A special parking discount code for the entire weekend will be available closer to the event.
